What can I say? I thought I can't draw... Apparently I can. I bought this book on October 7 and just finished it two days ago. The book is easy to follow, no theory overload, you start drawing from day 1. And from day one I was impressed and thought "hmm maybe I can draw after all...". It starts with spheres and cubes and theory on lighting, shadows and what makes your drawing look 3d. As you go through the book it becomes more challenging and ... FUN! The author says it takes about 20 minutes for a lesson, it was 40+ for me. My advice is spend your time, don't rush it, pay attention to details as your drawing will look better at the end. I had couple of lessons that were rushed and the results were not satisfying. I've attached pictures of my drawings, clearly I'm not Picasso, but the improvement is there. The skull is not from the book, it was drawn half way through the book as a challenge for myself to see if I learned anything. The drawing of a wolf was drawn yesterday. What I discovered is that drawing takes me away from everything and I really enjoy the process. If you think you can't draw and would like to learn how I challenge you to get this book and finish it. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. I originally bought this book as something my daughter and I could do together, because she likes to draw, and has expressed interest in improving her skills. I asked her what she thought about this one when I was looking at Amazon for options, and she said "yah, sure!".And then it came...and she discovered it didn't really go over drawing cute, fluffy animals and she specifically listed that as the reason she didn't want to do any of the exercises in this book with me anymore. So I decided to go through it an effort to reclaim some hobby time, and I worked some of these during my son's clinic based therapy sessions, because they could be wrapped up in under an hour. His target audience for this book really appears to be adults, even though he does teach drawing classes for children. I found his explanations to be done in an engaging way, and well done (I did take some drawing stuff years ago), and his presentation comes across as pretty encouraging and I think he does a good job of making drawing seem accessible to any skill level. The therapy doodles I made from some of his exercises are attached in the photo, these are some of the earlier exercises. As you can see, I didn't buy fancy paper for this, I grabbed printer paper sheets and the book as I was headed out the door. I think perhaps the greatest benefit of this book is it makes sharpening this skill fun and accessible to anybody working with time crunches.
